Bernice Muya is the Managing Partner in the firm and heads the Commercial Law Department.  She is a corporate legal expert with wide ranging in-house legal experience.  She is well versed in commercial transactions including mergers, de-mergers, acquisitions and transformations. She has over 15 years’ legal experience having worked in the Banking industry, insurance industry and investment sector.

 

As the Group Legal and Regulatory Affairs Manager at FEP Holdings Limited, Bernice was instrumental in the success of a Rights Issue in 2014 that raised Kshs. 2.4 Billion. She also offered Company Secretarial services to FEP Holdings and its 14 subsidiaries in diverse sectors of the economy including ICT Services, Education services, Retail services, Insurance industry, microfinance, Hotel and Tours services among others.
Bernice was involved in the transformation of Kenya Women Finance Trust into a deposit Taking Microfinance Bank regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya. She was the internal Project Manager liaising with the CBK and ensuring that all concerns were addressed, leading to the issuance of the Deposit taking License in March 2010. Kenya Women Microfinance Bank is the largest Microfinance Bank in Kenya.

 

She has experience and interest in Commercial Law and Practice, Insurance Law, Banking Law and Conveyancing Law. Bernice served as the Head of Legal Services at Madison Insurance and Company Secretary and Leal Manager at UAP Insurance Company Ltd.

 

Bernice is a Certified Mediator with the Mediation Training Institute (USA) and has recently been accredited by the Judiciary’s Mediation Accreditation Committee.

 

Bernice is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moi University and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. In addition, she is proficient in French with a Diploma in French from Alliance Francaise.

She is also a Certified Secretary (CS), and a certified Governance Professional.
